Lakers vs Wizards: LeBron, Reaves Shine in 120-101 Win

The Los Angeles Lakers announced the starting lineup for their March 30, 2026, game against the Washington Wizards. Unsurprisingly, the team excluded Luka Doncic from the lineup, as he was serving a one-game suspension after accumulating his 16th technical foul of the season. The designated starters for the matchup were Austin Reaves, Jake LaRavia, Rui Hachimura, LeBron James, and DeAndre Ayton.

In addition to Doncic’s absence, the final injury report listed Marcus Smart and rookie Adou Thiero as out, further impacting the rotation. Coach JJ Redick adjusted the lineup to account for these absences, bringing LaRavia and Hachimura into the starting five despite neither having featured prominently in that role recently, and the positioning was a great success. Austin Reaves and LeBron James anchored a balanced attack with 19 and 21 points, respectively, leading the Lakers to a 120-101 victory on March 30, 2026.

Game Performance Highlights

Austin Reaves led the Lakers on March 30, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, with 17 points and 9 assists with Doncic out, while LeBron James contributed 21 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds. The Lakers’ defense held the Wizards to just 40% shooting from the field. With this win, after the game, the Lakers improved to 49-26 on the season, while the Wizards fell to 17-58. Doncic will be eligible to return for the Lakers’ next game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The suspension reflected the NBA rule that a player or coach will automatically be suspended with zero pay for one game once they receive their 16th technical foul of the regular season. The player will be suspended for one regular-season game for every two additional technical fouls the player receives.

The Lakers solidified their standing in the Western Conference playoff race with the win against the Wizards.    Los Angeles has been one of the hottest teams in the NBA in March, and the Wizards have struggled throughout the season. The Lakers are in a strong position in the Western Conference, with a 49-26 record (NBA team standings). Meanwhile, the Phoenix is 5 games back of the Lakers at 43-33. Moreover, the Suns’ 125-123 loss to the Denver Nuggets on March 25 aided the Lakers.

Although the team experienced a downturn in standings just a month ago, after Doncic’s MVP-level performances and strong play from LeBron James and Austin Reaves, along with the rest of the supporting cast, the Lakers were able to come to 13-2 this month, which is tied for the second-best record for the team on the NBA March schedule. The Lakers have been in a significant upward trend, winning 8 of 10 recent games.

Sustained Defensive Pressure

The Lakers’ defense stifled the Wizards by holding them to 40% shooting and going on a 38-13 run to close the first half, turning a one-point deficit after the first quarter into a commanding 21-point halftime lead. Key to the surge was led by Jaxson Hayes, who scored the final five points of an 11-0 flurry early in the second quarter to give the Lakers a lead they never relinquished.
The defensive pressure continued throughout the game, preventing the Wizards from mounting a serious comeback despite briefly cutting the deficit to 10 points late in the third quarter (Lakers Nation YouTube).  LeBron James’ all-around effort, including his third triple-double of the season, helped the Lakers maintain control throughout the game. The Los Angeles Lakers will face the Cleveland Cavaliers at Crypto.com Arena today, March 31, 2026, at 10:30 PM ET.
