Man United News: Kobbie Mainoo Contract Problem Emerges As Banned Player Says Sorry

Man United News: Kobbie Mainoo Contract Problem Emerges As Banned Player Says Sorry

Manchester United has become a revived club after the appointment of Michael Carrick as its interim manager for the remainder of the season. United is currently in third in the English Premier League point table following their remarkable six win in seven matches since Carrick took the reins in mid-January. On the field, they are in hot form, but off-pitch incidents remain far from ideal. Contract issues revolving around Kobbie Mainoo, their Stockport-born Manchester United academy product, are making headlines and prominent UK media reports that Mainoo is dealing with what has been labelled a “lingering contract problem.”

Mainoo was not an integral part of their former manager, Ruben Amorim’s system, and was not a regular starter either. The 20-year-old Englishman was told to leave Manchester United on loan last summer, but after the appointment of their former midfielder, Michael Carrick, things suddenly changed. Mainoo started to get more minutes and started each of the seven games under the interim manager.

Despite the impactful return to the starting eleven, the lingering issues related to salary alignment and breakdown in communication during the former boss’s tenure make Mainoo’s future at the club uncertain. Mainoo is one of the lowest earners in the current squad; he is currently on a contract of around £ 20,000 per week, and the current one will expire in 2027, with the club offering an option to further extend for 12 months. According to close sources, the contract talks over an improved contract between the two parties have been going on for some time.

According to the English media, Mainoo reportedly agreed to a salary compromise earlier in this season, but he was not provided with any additional information until after Amorim was sacked in January 2026. With his performance on the rise, the wage demands seem inevitable, though it remains uncertain whether Mainoo will adjust his salary expectations. Latest reports from multiple sources suggest that the English international will settle and commit his long-term future to his boyhood club and 20-time Premier League champions.

The Daily Mail reported that there was now a considerably higher chance of the Stockport-born player Kobbie Mainoo staying at Manchester United and signing a new long-term contract if the two sides could reach an agreement again. The outlet also reported that several of United’s Premier League rivals and a number of European clubs were monitoring Mainoo’s situation and his quick return to form. It added that United would be reluctant to sell him this summer, especially with Casemiro and possibly Manuel Ugarte expected to leave the club.

Young United Midfielder Jack Fletcher Apologises After Homophobic Slur Ban

Manchester United’s 18-year-old academy player Jack Fletcher has received a six-match ban by the Football Association after admitting to homophobic abuse. Jack is the son of Manchester United legend Darren Fletcher, who made 342 appearances for the club between 2003 and 2015. According to The Football Association, there had been an incident of misconduct classified as a non-standard case involving Jack Fletcher, a player for Manchester United, during the EFL Trophy match between Barnsley FC and Manchester United Reserves on October 21, 2025.

The official statement announced that Jack Fletcher had breached FA Rule E3 by allegedly acting improperly and/or using abusive and/or insulting words during the fixture, contrary to FA Rule E3.1. It further alleged that this breach constituted an “aggravated breach” under FA Rule E3.2, as it referenced sexual orientation either expressly or impliedly. Fletcher admitted the charge and opted for a paper hearing, resulting in a decision of a six-match suspension, a £1,500 fine, and an education order.

At the time, the local lad was fined £1,500 and banned for two games for the red card. Following the official statement from the association, he has been handed an additional four-game ban. Jack has already served three of his four-game ban, with only non–first-team competitive fixtures counting. The Football Association confirmed that, in addition to his ongoing participation in regular academy programmes on diversity and inclusion, Jack Fletcher would also take part in educational training conducted by the FA.

Jack said via an official statement from Manchester United that he was truly sorry for the offensive word he had used in the heat of the moment. He added that although he had not intended to use the term as a homophobic insult, he fully understood that such language was unacceptable and had apologised immediately after the game. He also stated that the momentary lapse in character did not reflect his beliefs or values.
