Did Tiger Woods Get in a Car Accident Today?
Tiger Woods was released on bail on Friday, March 27, 2026, hours after being arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) following a rollover car crash on Jupiter Island, Florida. Under Florida law, he was required to remain in the Martin County Jail for at least eight hours before being eligible for release, and his release occurred around 11 p.m. ET after he was booked at 3 p.m.
Return to Golf and Crash Incident
The crash occurred just days after Woods returned to action in the TGL final at the SoFi Center, where his team, Jupiter Links, lost 9-2 to the Los Angeles Golf Club. The scene took place near 281 Beach Road, which is about 4 miles away to north of Woods’ home. Sheriff John Budensiek of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the accident occurred on Friday afternoon, when the driver of a pickup truck observed a Range Rover closing at high speed and attempted to get off the road, but was not able to do so because of the narrowness of the residential street. The vehicle rolled onto its side, but Woods was uninjured and able to crawl out through the passenger door.
The sheriff stated that although a breathalyzer test showed no signs of alcohol, Woods exhibited signs of impairment that investigators suspected were linked to medication or drugs. The breathalyzer test showed no signs of alcohol. Still, Woods refused a urinalysis test and was arrested and charged with DUI, alongside property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, both misdemeanors.
Most recently, in February 2021, his SUV ran off a coastal road in Los Angeles at high speed, an accident that resulted in multiple leg and ankle injuries.
How Many Times has Tiger Woods Been Arrested?
Tiger Woods has been arrested two times for driving under the influence, including the high-profile 2017 incident in Jupiter and his most recent arrest following a rollover crash in March 2026.
Uncertainty Ahead of the Masters
Woods recently returned from multiple back surgeries to win the 2019 Masters for his 15th major. His 82 titles on the PGA Tour were tied for the career record with Sam Snead. Since the LA crash, he had played 11 tournaments without being closer than 16 shots to the winner; four times, he was able to finish 72 holes.
The recent Friday arrest comes as Woods was trying to decide if he would be fit enough to play the Masters, which begins on April 9. Recently, Woods indicated his playing at the Masters will be a possibility as he continued to recover from an Achilles injury and back surgery. He was also to be in Augusta, Georgia, on April 5, where he will unveil a golf course project with Masters chairman Fred Ridley. Additionally, he was only days away from what was described as a ‘soft deadline’ to decide whether to be the U.S. Ryder captain for the 2027 matches in Ireland.
One of Golf’s All-Time Greats
Woods is widely known as one of the greatest golfers of all time. He had won 15 major championships, second to Jack Nicklaus with 18, and 82 PGA Tour events, a record he shared with Sam Snead. Woods dominated the 2000 season, winning three majors and setting a record scoring average of 68.17, the lowest in PGA Tour history. He also holds a record of 142 consecutive cuts made from 1998 to 2005, far surpassing Byron Nelson’s previous mark of 113. Beyond majors, Woods has won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational a record 8 times and claimed multiple World Golf Championships across various formats.
