We could all use some dingers.
Major League Baseball’s Opening Day is finally here. And what could be better in a bittersweet season than an abundance of big swings and long balls, the kind of hits that bring a little extra joy and excitement every time they occur?
It’s a lot of fun to think about. How many homers could someone hit in a 60-game season? And could one of Pennsylvania’s biggest sluggers (Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, Josh Bell) hit more than anyone else?
PA betting apps are loaded with wagering options for baseball’s return. And one of the more entertaining bets focuses on the 2020 home run leader. In this edition of Penn Sportsbook‘s Pick Play, we’ll get you ready for baseball season with some Pennsylvania player futures and a few other bets, along with all the available odds at your local sportsbook.
Harper among the top 10 in home run futures
Our region’s sportsbooks have futures bets available for baseball’s leader in almost every major statistical category (hits, runs, homers, stolen bases, RBI, strikeouts). And in home run futures, Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper is among the top 10 favorites. BetRivers, PlaySugarHouse and DraftKings Sportsbook have Joey Gallo (Texas Rangers) and Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels) as the co-favorites at +1000. Harper is ninth at +2200. The entire top 10 list is as follows:
- Joey Gallo: +1000
- Mike Trout: +1000
- Pete Alonso: +1100
- Giancarlo Stanton: +1100
- Cody Bellinger: +1800
- Nolan Arenado: +2000
- Aaron Judge: +2000
- Ronald Acuna, Jr: +2200
- Bryce Harper: +2200
- Yordan Alvarez: +2200
There are a long list of home run futures available, so bettors would be wise to take a look. Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins is also on the list with odds of 50-1 to lead the league in homers. Pittsburgh Pirate Josh Bell is farther down the list at 80-1.
DraftKings Sportsbook also has over/under totals posted for specific players. Harper’s total is set at 14.5. Alonso and Stanton have the highest totals posted at 16.5.
Segura, Reynolds on list for most hits
Maybe it doesn’t have the same juice as home run futures, but wagers are also available on Major League Baseball’s leader in hits this season. And in a shortened 60-game season, that could bring a little excitement to every at-bat.
BetRivers/PlaySugarHouse and DraftKings have Jose Altuve, Nolan Arendo and Whit Merrifield as the favorites for most hits at +1200. Philadelphia Phillies infielder Jean Segura is inside the top 15 at +2200. Fox Bet has him boosted to +2500 and FanDuel Sportsbook has him at +2700.
The entire top 15 according to BetRivers/PlaySugarHouse is as follows:
- Jose Altuve: +1200
- Nolan Arenado: +1200
- Whit Merrifield: +1200
- Rafael Devers: +1300
- DJ LeMahieu: +1500
- Francisco Lindor: +1500
- Ketel Marte: +1500
- Ozzie Albies: +2000
- Trea Turner: +2000
- Tim Anderson: +2200
- Xander Bogaerts: +2200
- Jeff McNeil: +2200
- Jorge Polanco: +2200
- Jean Segura: +2200
- Christian Yelich: +2200
Pittsburgh Pirates fans won’t find too many of their players on the futures lists, but outfielder Bryan Reynolds has pricing available for most hits. Reynolds, who had a .314 average last season, is +3300 to lead the league in hits.

Boys of summer are back
The boys of summer make their return this week. It’s a later start and fewer games than a typical season, but all of it will be a blessing, a gift we’ve waited a long time to open.
We could use a few games ball games on the television and a few wins from our favorite team.
We could all use some dingers too, the big swings and long balls that bring a little extra excitement with every occurrence.
Thankfully, some of them should arrive soon.
