Now we’re getting close.
And in another wrinkle, the Philadelphia 76ers are planning to tweak their starting lineup when the league restarts, moving Ben Simmons to power forward and Shake Milton to point guard. (Al Horford would now come off the bench).
The potential change has energized the fan base and some are viewing Philadelphia as a value play in futures wagering. A few months ago, the 76ers were near 30-1 to win the NBA title, but their outlook has improved recently.
In this week’s installment of PennSportsbooks‘ Pick Play, we’ll take a look at Philadelphia’s futures odds at PA sports betting apps and some other NBA lines worth watching.
FOX Bet has boosted the 76ers to 22-1 to win the NBA title
Philadelphia is +750 to win the Eastern Conference at BetRivers, PlaySugarHouse and DraftKings Sportsbook. And some think Philadelphia may have some betting value when the NBA’s restart begins. The team made the Eastern Conference finals last year and lost in Game 7 on a Kawhi Leonard shot at the buzzer that needed a few bounces to go in.
So Philadelphia was pretty close last season. NBA reporter Zach Lowe even mentioned the 76ers last week as a potential surprise team during an interview on ESPN’s Dan LeBetard show.
But if you don’t believe in Philly, futures bets are available on all 22 teams in the NBA’s restart, giving bettors plenty of wagering options. Currently, the Los Angeles Lakers (+260 or +250) and the Milwaukee Bucks (+250 or +240) are the favorites to win the NBA title.
76ers resume the season on August 1st
Philadelphia begins the NBA restart on Saturday, August 1st with a game against the Indiana Pacers. BetRivers, PlaySugarHouse and DraftKings Sportsbook have the 76ers currently as six-point favorites in their opening game.
Philadelphia’s moneyline is -250 and the over/under is set at 211.5. Sportsbooks also have parlays with the moneyline and the point total posted, a wager that could bring an even bigger return.
Fox Bet PA is offering a number of 76ers bet boosts. That includes an interesting bet on Joel Embiid to get a dunk in the first game back (Embiid over .5 dunks in 76ers vs. Pacers: +100).
Generous PA sportsbook promos for NBA return
The return of the NBA comes with a healthy share of sportsbook promotions in PA.
FanDuel has provided a one-day safety net for sports bets this month. If you save your day of risk-free betting for the NBA’s restart, you could get any losses refunded up to $100. Here’s how it works:
- Place a bet at FanDuel between July 22-August 2. Once you place a bet, your day of risk-free betting starts.
- Up to $100 will be refunded for net losses during this timeframe
- All bets must be placed and settled by 3 a.m. ET the following day to be eligible.
- Lost wagers will be refunded within 24-48 hours of being settled
- One bonus per person, no opt-in required
New DraftKings users can take advantage of a 5-1 odds boost on their game of choice from Thursday-Saturday. After signing up here, new users must opt-in to activate the one-time odds boost and apply it to the game of their choice. The max bet is $20, which would yield a $100 payout if your team gets the ‘W.’
Massive daily fantasy contests also posted for basketball’s return
DraftKings is celebrating the NBA’s return with two daily fantasy contests that will make people millionaires. On Thursday, July 30th, the site has a $4 entry, two-game contest that pays out a million bucks to first. A day later, the NBA Millionaire contest for Friday includes six games with a total prize pool of $3 million and another first-place payout of a million bucks.
FanDuel has a similar contest next Thursday with a $4 entry pool that also pays out $1 million to first. Second place receives $100,000 and third gets $50,000.
Both sites have contests at a number of different price points to satisfy your budget.
Crosstown teams Lakers and Clippers meet in first night of NBA’s return
One of the most interesting matchups of the NBA’s reopening weekend is a game between two star-studded Los Angeles teams, the Lakers and the Clippers. That game tips off at 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 30 with the Lakers, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, now 4-point favorites (increase from 2-point favorites a week ago).
BetRivers/PlaySugarHouse have the Clippers and the dynamic duo of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard +145 on the moneyline. The Lakers are -182 and the over/under is now at 214.5 points.
FanDuel is offering their popular “Spread the Love” promo with this game. For every 2,500 customers that place a bet on the Lakers at FanDuel, the spread moves one point in the Lakers’ favor. There’s no limit to how much the line can move, and all participating customers will get the final line before tip-off. Max bet is $50.
It should be an intriguing game that energizes the NBA’s return.
Two days later, the 76ers take the court.
And some think they could surprise. Pretty soon, we will see for ourselves.
