PSB Pick Play: Phillies, Pirates Win Totals are Live Ahead of 2020 Opening Day

Baseball month has arrived.

The Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates and the rest of the league reported to training camps this week. Workouts will begin Friday. And Opening Day, the beacon of sports light awaiting us all, is just three weeks away (July 23rd).

Major League Baseball’s 2020 schedule is packing 60 games for each team into just over two months. If everything goes as planned, there will be an abundance of baseball on the airwaves, in the news, and in our lives.

And Pennsylvania sportsbooks are loading up their offerings to help us enjoy the experience even more. Expect a number of promotions, daily fantasy contests, and betting options to show up in the weeks ahead.

In this week’s installment of Penn SportsbooksPick Play, we’ll get you ready for it all with a rundown of team win totals, futures bets and other notable wagers available at our region’s sports betting apps.

Phillies win total set at 31.5 games

With the 2020 season slashing its game total from 162 games to 60, there will be a noticeable difference in expected win totals. BetRivers/PlaySugarHouse, DraftKings SportsBook, FOX Bet and FanDuel Sportsbook have the Philadelphia Phillies win total at 31.5 games. Pricing does vary somewhat at each outlet, so bettors would be wise to shop around.

In National League futures, the Phillies are +1100 to win the division at BetRivers/PlaySugarHouse and DraftKings. FOX Bet views them a little more favorably at +900 and FanDuel has them at +1300.

World Series wagers would bring an even greater return. BetRivers/PlaySugarHouse and DraftKings have the Phillies at +2000 to win the World Series. FOX Bet has them at +2200 (with a bet boost to +2500) and FanDuel has them at +2500.

Pirates over/under set at 25.5

Oddsmakers view the Pittsburgh Pirates less favorably than their cross-state rivals in the upcoming season. BetRivers/PlaySugarHouse and DraftKings have the Pirates season win total set at 25.5 games. FOX Bet and FanDuel Sportsbook also have the same number.

In National League futures, the Pirates are 100-1 across the board. World Series wagers would return 250-1 odds.

Some experts have argued that a shorter season makes an underdog like Pittsburgh more possible, but a bet on the Pirates would be pretty bold. Division-winning odds are also available for those seeking a slightly safer play. The Pirates are 80-1 to win the National League Central at DraftKings and the Phillies are +325 in the NL East.

Dodgers, Yankees favorites for the 2020 World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the oddsmakers’ favorite to win this year’s World Series at +375. The New York Yankees, who added former Pirate Gerritt Cole in the offseason, are close behind at +400.

The Houston Astros (+650), Atlanta Braves (+1200) and Minnesota Twins (+1600) round out the top five at BetRivers/PlaySugarHouse and DraftKings.
