It’s all a gridlock.
The NHL postponed its Thursday and Friday games, taking a few days off in support of the social justice movements spreading across America’s professional sports leagues. And right now, the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders are tied 1-1 in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with the series set to resume Saturday at 7 p.m. (pushed back from noon).
Can Philadelphia surge ahead? The oddsmakers certainly think so, installing the Flyers at -124 to win the series at FanDuel Sportsbook. In this week’s installment of PennSportsbooks Pick Play, we’ll get you ready for hockey’s return with a rundown of all Philadelphia’s futures and some of the awards odds available at the best PA sportsbooks.
Flyers the second favorite to win the NHL Eastern Conference
Game lines for Philadelphia’s matchup on Saturday should be available soon. In the meantime, bettors can find plenty of futures wagers for the Flyers. BetRivers, PlaySugarHouse and DraftKings Sportsbook have Philadelphia as the second favorite to win the Eastern Conference. Tampa Bay is the current favorite at +135. Philadelphia is next at +300. The Islanders (+375) and Bruins (+400) round out the conference odds.
In the Western Conference, Las Vegas (+120) leads the way, followed by Dallas (+265), Colorado (+335) and Vancouver (+700).
Las Vegas and Vancouver are also tied 1-1 in their series, with Game 3 scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday night.
Could Philadelphia go all the way? Oddsmakers think it’s possible
It’s pretty clear that Tampa Bay is a team to beat. The Lightning are +135 to win the Eastern Conference and +340 to win the Stanley Cup. And Las Vegas is actually first in Stanley Cup odds with pricing of +300 at BetRivers. But Philadelphia is not far down the list, with odds of +700 to win the Stanley Cup at BetRivers, PlaySugarHouse, and DraftKings Sportsbook.
Of course, the Flyers will need to take control of the playoff series with the Islanders first. And to that end, futures odds are likely to change after Saturday’s game.
Carter Hart is among the top five in Conn Smythe odds
Our regional sportsbooks have also posted odds on the NHL’s Conn Smythe Award, which is given to the league’s Most Valuable Player. BetRivers has Colorado Avalanche center Nathan Mackinnon as the favorite to win at +800, but Flyers goaltender Carter Hart is in the mix at +1000. Hart has a record of 7-3 and an impressive save percentage of .935 during the playoffs.
Hart is currently fourth in Conn Smythe odds with Tampa Bay teammates Brayden Point (+800) and Nikita Kucherov (+900) ahead of him.
After a brief hiatus the Stanley Cup Playoffs will return Saturday with the Philadelphia Flyers looking to gain momentum in the series with the New York Islanders. The puck drops at 7 p.m. on NBC. A Conn Smythe contender will be in net for the Flyers. His teammates, who are favored to advance, will be in front of him on the ice.
But in the NHL playoffs, anything can happen. And right now, it’s all gridlocked.
Maybe, just maybe, the Philadelphia Flyers will break through.
We’ll find out Saturday.
