Kevin Lee headlines UFC card in Brazil

PSB Pick Play: UFC Is The Oasis In Coronavirus Sports Desert

So what are we supposed to do now?

Coronavirus concerns have completely decimated the sports calendar.

March Madness – the biggest sports betting event of the year – has been canceled. The NBA has suspended play for what’s expected to be at least 30 days.

The Major League Baseball season is pushed back at least two weeks. The Masters has been scrapped too. And the NHL, Major League Soccer, and seemingly everything else aren’t playing either.

So what the heck are we supposed to do?

PA sportsbooks boost odds for UFC Fight Night in Brazil

Fortunately, the UFC is pressing forward with its event Saturday in Brazil. Preliminary fights for UFC Fight Night start at 3 p.m. with the main card following at 6 p.m.

The main event features American Kevin Lee (-146 at FanDuel Sportsbook) vs. Brazilian Charles Oliveira (+124 at FanDuel).

Due to coronavirus concerns, there will be no fans in attendance, but the sports betting lines are live. And perhaps due to the limited offerings for sports right now, a number of PA online sportsbooks are boosting odds for the event.

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the boosted bets:

DraftKings Sportsbook:

  • Kevin Lee, Johnny Walker, and Demian Maia to all win boosted to +715
  • Kevin Lee to win by KO, DQ, or TKO boosted to +230

FOX Bet:

  • Johnny Walker to win by KO or TKO boosted to +275
  • Demian Maia and Charles Oliveira to both win boosted to +475
  • Johnny Walker and Kevin Lee to both win by KO, TKO, or DQ boosted to +600

The rest of the matchups and their betting lines according to BetRivers are as follows:

  • Francisco Trinaldo (-175) vs. John Makdessi (+138)
  • Johnny Walker (-148)  vs. Nikita Krylov (+117)
  • Rani Yahya (+150) vs. Enrique Barzola (-190)
  • Demian Maia (+151) vs. Gilbert Burns (-190)
  • Kevin Lee (-148) vs. Charles Oliveira (+119)

MLB Futures are live during the sports lull

A look at MLB futures bets might also help you survive the current lack of live sports. The MLB season is currently suspended, but most people believe baseball will be able to play at least a partial schedule of games.

FanDuel, DraftKings, FOX Bet, BetRivers and most other sportsbooks have a variety of futures bets posted.

FOX Bet has perhaps the most extensive offerings with wagers available on the World Series champion, the American and National League winners, and also player awards and futures.

In the Keystone State, the Philadelphia Phillies are 20-1 to win the World Series, while the Pittsburgh Pirates are a much longer shot at 100-1.

Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper is 16-1 to win the National League MVP, while teammate Rhys Hoskins is +5000 (50-1). And Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola to win the NL Cy Young has been boosted to +2800 (28-1).

Surviving the storm

It’s possible actual baseball games could return in a month. The NBA might resume its season around then too.

Soon enough, our sports nightmare might be over.

So in the meantime, maybe watch some different sports, spend some more time with family, soak up some fresh air outdoors.

And keep up that coronavirus recommended social distance.

That’s exactly what we’re supposed to do now.
