The kings have fallen.
Well, at least a little bit. The ACC Tournament begins Tuesday in Greensboro, North Carolina and neither Duke nor North Carolina are the favorites to win it.
That distinction belongs to Florida State (26-5, ranked No. 7 nationally) which enters the tournament as the favorite at +200, according to BetRivers Sportsbook. Duke enters the ACC Tournament as a No. 4 seed, but is second in line in futures odds at +225.
North Carolina facing long odds in Greensboro
North Carolina, which has been mired in a mediocre season, is +3000. FanDuel Sportsbook has UNC at +2300. The Tarheels are 13-18 and have been labeled as one of the least talented teams Roy Williams has ever coached.
UNC is almost certain to miss the NCAA Tournament unless the team can somehow capture the ACC title.
Pitt opens the tournament on Tuesday
The Pitt Panthers play in the first game of the tournament Tuesday at 4:30 p.m on the ACC Network. Pitt is seeded No. 13 in the tournament and will take on No. 12 Wake Forest.
The Panthers are 100-1 to win the tournament while the Demon Deacons are tied for the longest odds at 200-1. Here are the betting odds at DraftKings as of Tuesday morning.
- Pitt +1 (-112), Over 136 (-109), Moneyline -106
- Wake Forest -1 (-109), Under 136 (-113), Moneyline -115
Later that night, North Carolina takes on Virginia Tech, which enters the tournament at 150-1. The Tarheels are -3.5 with the over/under set at 142.
Full day action begins on Wednesday
On Wednesday, the ACC action becomes a full-day affair. No. 8 seeded Clemson faces No. 9 Miami at noon in a game that will be televised on ESPN. The Tigers carry 30-1 futures odds while the Hurricanes are 100-1.
After that, N.C. State (No. 5 seed) faces the winner of Wake Forest and Pitt at 2:30 p.m. The Wolfpack have differing odds at some PA online sportsbooks. BetRivers has N.C. State at +2500 (25-1), while FanDuel and FOX Bet are offering greater returns at +3500 (35-1).
Wednesday night games feature Notre Dame, Syracuse
Wednesday’s primetime action starts with Notre Dame (No. 7 seed) and Boston College (No. 10) tipping off at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN2. The Irish are 40-1 to win the tournament and the Eagles are 200-1.
Finally, Wednesday’s nightcap will feature Syracuse (the No. 6 seed) and the winner of the North Carolina/Virginia Tech game. According to the Associated Press, the Orangemen have the most regular season losses of any team Jim Boeheim has coached in 44 years at Syracuse. However, a deep run in the ACC Tournament could put them on the brink of an NCAA berth. Syracuse also carries varying odds (+3300 on BetRivers, +3500 on FanDuel) into Greensboro.
ACC sports betting continues all week
The ACC Tournament’s top seeds will finally tip off on Thursday with Florida State, Duke, Virginia (No. 2 seed), and Louisville (the No. 3 seed) taking the court. Virginia is +700 at DraftKings and BetRivers, and +750 at FanDuel and FOX Bet. Louisville is +325 at DraftKings and BetRivers, and +300 at FanDuel and FOX Bet.
Live betting on the ACC games should be available on numerous sites after each contest tips off. The action will continue through Saturday, giving bettors plenty of options as they gear up for the NCAA Tournament the following week.
In the meantime, the ACC Tournament should offer plenty of intrigue. Some of the nation’s best teams are in the field, but the traditional favorites are a little weaker than in some years past.
The kings have fallen.
At least a little bit.
