It hasn’t been pretty.
A missed kick to beat the Colts. A turnover-marred win over the Rams.
But now, the Pittsburgh Steelers are 5-4 and right back in the playoff hunt, facing their divisional rival Cleveland on Thursday Night Football. And in case that’s not interesting enough, Pennsylvania sportsbooks have provided plenty of betting options too.
Browns open as home favorites
Cleveland beat Buffalo in a low-scoring game last week and opens as a 2.5-point favorite against the Steelers according to BetRivers. The Browns are -155 on the moneyline, while the Steelers are +125. The game’s total is 40 points.
Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on Fox.
Steelers carrying major momentum into Cleveland
Pittsburgh is entering the game on a four-game winning streak, with consecutive wins against the Chargers, Dolphins, Colts, and Rams. During that span, the Steelers defense has been especially stout. They’ve held their opponents to 17 points or less in three of those games.
The Browns, meanwhile, have lost four of their last five games. A late 19-16 win over Buffalo last week stemmed the tide.
FanDuel has first touchdown prop bets
One interesting way to wager on Thursday night’s game is to take a flyer on the first touchdown scorer at FanDuel Sportsbook. For Pittsburgh, running back James Connor has odds of +600. Other notable Steelers include:
- Jaylen Samuels +800
- Juju Smith-Schuster +900
- Diontae Johnson +1100
- James Washington +1800
- Vance McDonald +1900
Running back Nick Chubb is the favorite for the Browns at +450. Odds on some of the other Cleveland players are as follows:
- Odell Beckham Jr. +800
- Jarvis Landry +950
- Kareem Hunt +1100
- Demetrius Harris +1900
- Baker Mayfield +2900
DraftKings has numerous quarter/half bets posted
The newly-launched DraftKings Sportsbook has a number of bets available for the game’s quarters and halves for those seeking more immediate results. The Steelers are +0.5 for the first half, while the Browns are laying the same margin. The first half over/under is set at 19.5 points.
In the first quarter, the Steelers number is once again +0.5, with the Browns posted at -0.5. The first-quarter total is 7.5.
Alternate spreads, totals, and live betting are also available
For those looking for different spreads or totals, most of the major sites have also posted an extensive list of alternate numbers. Live betting in PA should also be available on numerous apps once the game kicks off.
Touchdown bets can also extend the action
One other option to consider is a wager on the game’s touchdowns if you’re hoping to carry the action through to the bitter end. BetRivers has the Steelers as -108 to score the last touchdown, with the Browns posted at -125.
The Browns touchdown total is set at 2.5. The Steelers number is 1.5. And if you’re looking for combined totals, the game’s touchdown total odds are as follows:
- Over 3.5 (-225)
- Under 3.5 (+160)
- Over 4.5 (+115)
- Under 4.5 (-157)
Weather not expected to be a huge factor in Thursday’s game
At press time, Thursday’s forecast isn’t showing any extreme weather for the Steelers/Browns showdown. Skies should be clear and temperatures should be cold, plunging below 30 degrees.
All that is pretty typical of Cleveland’s late-season football weather.
Winter is approaching. A chill is in the air.
But with a few smart wagers, things will heat right up.
Enjoy the game.
