Steelers-Chargers Sports Betting Preview

Let’s just say there’s a slight gap in experience.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football, Pittsburgh is expected to start undrafted rookie quarterback Devlin Hodges. The Chargers will have 16-year veteran and eight-time Pro Bowler Phillip Rivers under center.

But I suppose that’s what makes betting so interesting, right?

The Chargers are currently 6.5-point favorites, according to BetRivers Sportsbook. The Steelers are a healthy +240 on the moneyline. And, if you’re intrigued by either of those numbers, there are hundreds of others worth looking at Pennsylvania sportsbooks.

Chargers-Steelers expected to be dominated by defense

Pittsburgh and Los Angeles are heading into Sunday night’s game, looking to shake off disappointing starts to the season. The Steelers are presently 1-4, and the Chargers have a record of 2-3. Pittsburgh lost to Baltimore in overtime last week while Los Angeles fell to the Broncos.

This week, handicappers expect a rather low scoring contest with the BetRivers point total set at 41.5. FanDuel Sportsbook has the Los Angeles Chargers team total set at 24, while the Steelers’ number is 17.

FanDuel has also posted a slightly larger spread for the game at Pittsburgh +7, which gives Steelers bettors an extra half-point cushion.

Prop bets offer a different entry into SNF

If you’re a Steelers fan and you lack confidence in your team and its third-string quarterback, prop bets might be the best entry point into Sunday Night Football.

BetRivers has more than 80 different betting options for the game, including many prop bets that don’t hinge on the final result. The sportsbook has wagers on the first team to score, races to different point totals, and numerous touchdown props. There are also many alternate lines and point totals listed. Furthermore, the game should have some live betting odds available not long after the game kicks off.

Parlay bets aplenty for Sunday Night Football

Another option for bettors is to take a chance on a pre-made parlay bet Sunday night. One of them includes a moneyline bet and a wager on the over/under, while another features a point spread bet on one team parlayed with a second bet on the point total. Prices on those range from +155 (Los Angeles moneyline and the over or under) to +450 (a Steelers moneyline bet and an over or under selection.

First-half bets might be ideal for those going to bed early

For those fans who can’t stay up for the entire game Sunday night, there are also a number of first-half bets available.

Both BetRivers and FanDuel have the Steelers as +3.5 in the first half. The first half point total is set at 20.5. And the first half moneylines would pay out at +175 for the Steelers and -235 for the Chargers.

If you’re looking for some extra action to cap off your weekend, the Steelers-Chargers game on Sunday night will provide plenty of options. From traditional bets to props and parlays, the online sportsbooks are overflowing with odds.

With all those options, Sunday’s action will extend far beyond the football game.
