“It’s the most wonderful time of the year…”
Apologies to Christmas, but sports fans are approaching days, weeks, and months jam-packed with action, excitement, and fun.
It’s football season. Perhaps the most wonderful time of the year.
At PennSportsbooks, we’re here to help. So here’s the first installment of our PSB Pick 6, an article that covers six of the biggest games near the Keystone State and their corresponding spreads at Pennsylvania sportsbooks. We’ll cover the NFL games when they get started, but this week, the focus is on your PA college football betting options.
Here we go.
Robert Morris at Buffalo ( BUF -45.5): 8/29, 7 p.m.
Pittsburgh-area college Robert Morris travels north for its first game of the season against Buffalo from the Mid-American Conference. The Bulls are favored by 45.5 at BetRivers. Interestingly enough, there are 24 available wagers for this game on the BetRivers online sportsbook. The game has a total of 63.5 points, but many other options are available at varying prices.
You can even bet on the points scored by the away team (Robert Morris). Right now, the Robert Morris Colonials over/under is set at 6.5. That over has a price of -190. The away team under is +138.
James Madison at West Virginia (WVU -6): 8/31, 2 p.m.
The oddsmakers at BetRivers have set an intriguing line for this game, placing the WVU Mountaineers as merely a touchdown favorite in their season opener with James Madison. West Virginia is -240 on the moneyline. The Dukes are +190. The over/under for the game is set at 52.5 points.
Bucknell at Temple (Temple -40.5): 8/31, 3 p.m.
PlaySugarHouse has the Temple Owls laying more than five touchdowns in their matchup with in-state rival Bucknell. The sportsbook did not have a point total set for the game at press time.
Idaho at Penn State (PSU -40): 8/31, 3:30 p.m.
The Parx Casino sportsbook has the Nittany Lions also laying a significant number, as they are 40 point favorites in their season opener against the Idaho Vandals. The over/under is set at 58.5 points.
Syracuse at Liberty (SYR -18.5): 8/31, 6 p.m.
Syracuse enters Saturday’s game ranked No. 22 in the country. New York’s sportsbooks currently do not allow bets on in-state college teams, so some residents may be tempted to travel to Pennsylvania for some action.
It’s a rare home game for Liberty against a Power 5 school, so you should expect a lot of excitement on the Flames’ campus. Liberty is an 18-point underdog according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The game has a total of 68 points. First half wagers for this game are posted as well.
Virginia at Pittsburgh (UVA -3): 8/31, 7:30 p.m.
The ACC rivals open the season with a night game at Heinz Field. The UVA Cavaliers are favored by three. Rivers Casino Pittsburgh, which is just a few steps from the stadium, has Pittsburgh at +117 on the moneyline and Virginia as -141. The over/under for the game is set at 45.5.
FanDuel’s sportsbook has slightly different odds with Pitt listed as only a 2.5-point underdog.
If you’re feeling lucky, a parlay with all six of the games listed would return nearly 50-1 odds.
Enjoy the games and everything else football season has to offer.
After all, some might call it the most wonderful time of the year.
