Rivers Pittsburgh online sportsbook launch

BetRivers Rushes Onto PA Betting Market After Two-Day Test Period

Like déjà vu all over again, a third online Pennsylvania sportsbook is up and running.

BetRivers is the new online and mobile offering from the dominant casino in Western Pennsylvania, Rivers Casino Pittsburgh.

While it is a new betting app, it is also familiar. BetRivers is essentially a tweaked clone of the app offered by its sister property, SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia. The similar apps are both from Rush Street Gaming.

Rush Street owns and operates Rivers casinos in several states and also SugarHouse in Philadelphia. The company now is actively moving to rename and rebrand its Philly property to Rivers Casino Philadelphia.

Similar but separate sportsbook apps

And while the sportsbook apps are related, they aren’t the same.

  • Each casino brand has a separate app
  • Each requires a separate sign-up
  • Money isn’t transferable between the apps

But because of the likeness of the Rush Street Interactive apps, the Pennsylvania Gaming Contol Board (PGCB) only demanded two days of testing before moving to approve the full-time operation of the app.

Testing of the new sportsbook continued Wednesday from 2 p.m. through midnight. Assuming no hiccups, full-time play will follow.

Rush Street accounts for more than 50% of all sports betting in Pennsylvania at brick-and-mortar facilities.

Rivers is first online sportsbook site connected to Western PA

The soft launch for BetRivers is the first connected to a Western Pennsylvania property, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this summer.

As Bill Keena, Rivers Casino general manager observed in an announcement:

We’re celebrating one decade while planning ahead for the next. Full-service online, mobile and in-casino sportsbooks are where the industry is headed, and thanks to our Team Members, we’re already there.

Still no iOS solution for PA sports bettors

For now, only Android cell users can download the app to wager on their mobile phones.

iPhone users can register using their mobile devices, but due to Apple restrictions, they will need to wager via laptops or desktops. Rush Street is attempting to create a workaround for both Rivers and SugarHouse online sportsbooks.

A reminder: you must be in Pennsylvania to play and locations are checked with geolocation software. You must also be at least 21 years old.

Incentives to sign up with BetRivers

The deposit bonus at BetRivers is the same offer PlaySugarHouse customers can redeem. That is a 100% deposit match bonus of up to $250. All you need to use is the promo code 250MATCH.

Even if you already earned a deposit bonus at SugarHouse, you can still earn a new bonus at BetRivers. Players must activate the bonus and play through it within 30 days or it expires.

iRush rewards active on BetRivers

BetRivers features the same iRush Rewards program available on both the SugarHouse NJ and SugarHouse PA products.

Their tiered loyalty program provides an array of prizes and benefits based on the amount of money players wager.

Players can earn one point for every straight $10 sports bet. The amount required to earn a point drops $1 each time you add a bet. And it goes down to $1 for every 10 to 12 bet combination, so get ready to parlay away.

Offseason for sports betting and sportsbooks

There is a lull in sports betting before the NFL season starts up, so interest in the app could build over time instead of taking off.

Like PlaySugarHouse, the Rivers app allows livestreaming of some games and offers in-game betting options.
