Rivers Philadelphia name change

Get Ready For SugarHouse To Rebrand As Rivers Philadelphia

In a few months, Pennsylvania will have a Rivers Casino on both sides of the state.

At last Wednesday’s Pennsylvania Gaming and Control Board (PGCB) meeting, owners of SugarHouse Casino informed state regulators of its intention to change names. SugarHouse Casino will be rebranded as Rivers Casino Philadelphia this fall.

The name change will move the casino in line with Rush Street Gaming’s other properties. Rush Street Gaming also operates Rivers Casino Pittsburgh and two other Rivers casinos in Schenectady, New York and Des Plaines, Illinois.

Rebranding part of $15 million reinvestment

The SugarHouse rebrand is part of a $15 million reinvestment in the casino property.

Upgrades to the site will include a new state-of-the-art PA retail sportsbook, a new restaurant, and new signage. The changes will begin before SugarHouse launches its online gaming operation, which ideally gets underway in July.

SugarHouse’s online sportsbook will also be rebranded sometime this summer. Don’t worry; the transition should be seamless for existing players and accounts. SugarHouse was the first Pennsylvania casino to launch a PA real-money online sportsbook when its website went live at the end of May.

Rivers brand could be king of PA sports betting

The Rivers Casino sportsbook in Pittsburgh is frequently the top-performing sportsbook in the state in terms of total handle and revenue.  Adding SugarHouse and its online betting presence to the Rivers group will create perhaps the strongest brand in Pennsylvania sports betting. Especially considering the Rivers brand will have a strong presence in PA’s two most populous cities.

The rebrand should also provide a seamless platform

One last aspect of the SugarHouse rebrand is that it should provide for uniform gaming options across Pennsylvania and beyond.

“Gaming in Pennsylvania has evolved tremendously,” Greg Carlin, CEO of SugarHouse Casino and Rush Street Gaming said. “Keeping pace with the changing landscape has been paramount to our success. Creating a unified brand is another example of how we’re anticipating and responding to the competitive market for gaming.”

The Rush Street group will soon be able to promote the Rivers brand across the state, with both online and brick-and-mortar offerings.

SugarHouse looks to continue strong performance with a new name

SugarHouse Casino first opened in 2010. Its name was a nod to its past, as the site was once home to the Jack Frost Sugar Refinery. The SugarHouse casino added $164 million in upgrades in 2016 and opened its casino sportsbook in December 2018.

The American Gaming Association ranks the SugarHouse Casino as the 20th biggest earning casino outside of Nevada.

Now, the casino will look to continue past success with its new name.
